Park Mill
Guide Book
A fully designed and illustrated 40-page guide book exploring the history of Park Mill from its origins in 1160 to the present day
Editorial Design, Illustration

I worked with the Gower Heritage Centre to design and illustrate a comprehensive guide book dedicated to the history of Park Mill, tracing its story from its original construction in 1160 through to the present day. The project was created to educate visitors while enhancing their experience of the site, combining historical research with accessible, engaging design.
The guide book spans 40 pages and was fully designed from cover to cover, including layout, typography and visual structure. Particular care was taken to ensure the content was clear and well-paced, allowing readers to explore Park Mill’s long and complex history without feeling overwhelmed. The booklet covers a wide range of topics, including how the mill operated, the evolution of the site over centuries, and its role within the surrounding area.
Alongside the design work, I illustrated the entire booklet. The illustrations are detailed yet playful, helping to explain technical processes such as the inner workings of the mill, while also adding warmth and character to the publication. Diagrams, maps and timelines are integrated throughout to support the written content and guide readers through different historical periods.
The overall visual style was developed to feel historic and tactile, using nostalgic typefaces and an aged paper colour palette to reflect the heritage of the site. Decorative illustration elements were used to reinforce the sense of history without detracting from readability.
The finished guide book balances educational content with visual storytelling, resulting in a resource that is informative, engaging and visually cohesive, while remaining appropriate for a historic and family-friendly heritage environment.
